A Survey on Modeling Language Evolution in the New Millennium

    Get PDF
AbstractLanguage is a complex evolving system and it is not a trivial task to model the dynamics of processes occurring during its evolution. Therefore, modeling language evolution has attracted the interest of several researchers giving rise to a lot of models in the literature of the last millennium. This work reviews the literature devoted to computationally represent the evolution of human language through formal models and provides an analysis of the bibliographic production and scientific impact of the surveyed language evolution models to give some conclusions about current trends and future perspectives of this research field. The survey provides also an overview of the strategies for validating and comparing the different language evolution models and how these techniques have been applied by the surveyed models

European Citizenship, Identity and Rights: A Survey on Italian Young Students

Developing Europe means, first of all, creating a pervasive feeling of European citizenship, and creating a sense of belonging to a community in all countries of the European Union. This paper focuses on extracting Italian students’ socio-psychological dimension with respect to their perception and feelings regarding European citizenship, and their knowledge of the most relevant rights. The study involves Italian students aged between 18 and 25. A hybrid methodology has been adopted, combining: data extracted from a questionnaire; text from the photo-stories; images of the photo-stories and interviews. The results underline that young people have a sense of belonging to the European community, with the same rights and benefits. Moreover, there is the need to have the same feeling of European citizenship everywhere in Europe. The request for a stronger and more active citizens’ involvement also emerged from the study

An Integrated Framework for On-line Viral Marketing Campaign Planning

    Get PDF
Over the years Internet marketing has become the primary tool for marketers to deliver information to consumers. It includes a mix of methods (m-marketing, social networks, viral marketing etc.) to create awareness for the company's brand, products and services. This paper, in particular addresses the on-line viral marketing method. In particular it provides a theoretical framework involving elements and actors important for the planning of an on-line viral marketing campaign. The framework presents four different phases of the analysis. The first phase involves the analysis of the company, its business context and the knowledge of the type of on-line viral marketing campaigns already done (both internal and external). In the second phase objectives and target are defined. On considering the third phase this includes the message creation and the selection of useful tolls to use. Finally in the last phase the implementation of the on-line viral marketing campaign is carried out. Each of these phases is caracterised by different actors involved in the different processes

Collective awareness platforms and digital social innovation mediating consensus seeking in problem situations

In this paper we show the results of our studies carried out in the framework of the European Project SciCafe2.0 in the area of Participatory Engagement models. We present a methodological approach built on participative engagements models and holistic framework for problem situation clarification and solution impacts assessment. Several online platforms for social engagement have been analysed to extract the main patterns of participative engagement. We present our own experiments through the SciCafe2.0 Platform and our insights from requirements elicitation

When Language Evolution Meets Multimodality: Current Status and Challenges Toward Multimodal Computational Models

    Get PDF
Computational models can be considered human-designed computing models inspired by the processes observed in the natural world, which allow simulating and understanding these processes. Computational modelling is notably applied to simulate the behaviour and long-term dynamics of human Language. The research effort made so far in computational modelling of language evolution considers predominantly one modality by arguing for a unimodal origin of Language. This article extends this paradigm to a new perspective that integrates into its structure and learning algorithms principles from multimodal communication. This article gives an overview of the current language evolution models. It discusses the key challenges towards multimodal language evolution modelling by envisioning a conceptual framework to design the multimodal grounding and the language learning processes, as well as their realisation through a multi-agent multimodal referential game. This framework is valuable for many researchers working on language evolution to reveal the key questions they should address and integrate for pursuing a holistic vision that combines all modalities in a multimodal language evolution model

Fake news detection: a survey of evaluation datasets

    Get PDF
Fake news detection has gained increasing importance among the research community due to the widespread diffusion of fake news through media platforms. Many dataset have been released in the last few years, aiming to assess the performance of fake news detection methods. In this survey, we systematically review twenty-seven popular datasets for fake news detection by providing insights into the characteristics of each dataset and comparative analysis among them. A fake news detection datasets characterization composed of eleven characteristics extracted from the surveyed datasets is provided, along with a set of requirements for comparing and building new datasets. Due to the ongoing interest in this research topic, the results of the analysis are valuable to many researchers to guide the selection or definition of suitable datasets for evaluating their fake news detection methods
